CHARLOTTE COUNTY: A grow house bust in Charlotte County netted a fugitive who has been in hiding for nearly two years. Now, deputies are investigating Emilio Suarez in a credit card fraud scheme.
Cuban Emilio Suarez had not been seen by law enforcement since his conviction in Miami-Dade County on credit card fraud in December 2006.
The Department of Corrections lost track of him when he never showed up to begin three years of probation.
Charlotte County deputies found him Tuesday, continuing an alleged string of crimes. But they didn’t even know who he was at first.
Suarez, 43, apparently has become quite accomplished at hiding who he really is.
"There were all kinds of fake IDs and fake credit cards," said Bob Carpenter of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. "Twenty-eight of those things had his photo and a different name."
A satellite television bill with his real name on it, Carpenter said, gave him away.
Deputy Ralph Soberay, who works in the warrants squad, says it’s an ongoing challenge to find Cuban nationals like Suarez. The lack of known addresses, fake identification, no fingerprints on file and many aliases pose difficult obstacles, he said.
Suarez likely won’t be deported because Cuba usually doesn’t accept criminals back. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office notified federal Customs and Immigration Enforcement Agents.
"There’s a hold on him because [ICE agents] are going to have to determine what they’re going to do with him," Carpenter said.
ICE spokesman Nicole Navas said once there is a hold by deputies, ICE will review the case.
So far, the sheriff’s office has only charged Suarez with marijuana cultivation and giving a false name. The economic crime unit is currently investigating Suarez’s connection to the seized credit cards and IDs.Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. And, sorry American corporations, if you have to make a profit to satisfy the stockholders, do it on the backs of legal Americans who are on public assistance and who will probably spend time at severely reduced wages just to put food in front of the family.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
