ALIPAC NOTE: Please note that ABC completely omitted Obama's statement "You need to make sure your children learn Spanish!" from this article when that is the main point of contention in his speech!

ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Barack Obama reiterated his belief Friday that America’s children to learn a foreign language, firing back against criticism he received from some conservative groups who suggested the Illinois senator wanted to make the United States a bilingual country.

Speaking in Powder Springs, GA on Tuesday Obama told the crowd that it’s embarrassing when Europeans come to the US and they all speak English. By comparison, Obama said, America’s young people do not have matching language skills.

The MSM is in the tank for this guy. The bias in the media for BO is so obvious it's frighting.

I noticed that in various reports.....they tried to make it sound like he was talking of ANY language when he specifically said Spanish.

    Unbelievable!

The Obama campaign reiterated Friday that Obama would continue to require immigrants to learn English to be eligible for citizenship.
What's this??? OBAMA will continue to require immigrants to learn English to eligible for citizenship???? Excuse me...it's not up to OBAMA to legislate ...THE CONSTITUTION REQUIRES EVERY PERSON APPLYING FOR CITIZENSHIP TO HAVE A BASIC, FUNCTIONING KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH. THEY MUST BE ABLE TO SPEAK, READ, AND WRITE IN ENGLISH!

    What an arrogant idiot!

And YES...Obama made a definitive statement! "You must make sure that YOUR children learn Spanish"!!! It was a simple sentence followed by a period. The rest of his gibberish about the French and Germans was just an attempt to coverup his hispandering. He's so cocky, he thinks he's a real smooth operator, but he's nothing more than a two-bit politician (and not a very good one).

One more thing...just what is a "community organizer"??? I wish he would explan that one to us!

OK, after seeing the reaction by the media and the BO campaign staff, and figuring in our comments as well... Let me offer this:

For one, the [intentional?] vagueness used by Obama in discussing this, certainly leaves the observer to infer which language he might be referring to. A second language is good - sure, why not? After... a person masters the language which is a requisite to be functional in our society. But, then the obvious question which was only implied, but not directly addressed in Obama's comments... which second language should our kids learn?

    Mandarin? Hindi? Russian? .... Spanish?
Which one(s)? and more importantly... Why?

I believe one could offer a strong case to emphasize the previous ones over Spanish for those living in the US at the present time. But, even if a person does buy into the logic that English-speaking Americans SHOULD learn Spanish, then the next obvious question arises: which regional dialect of Spanish should that be? Proper Castillian Spanish? The Argentinian variant? The Venezuelan one? ... Or, of course, the one lurking which most the proponents are proffering, but leave unsaid: the Mexican variant of Spanish perhaps???

The basic contention doesn't make sense - because:
    1. English is still the most dominant international language in business
    2. The overwhelming majority of Americans speak English and will continue to do so well into the future.
    3. Many young people graduate from US high schools deficient in English.

Why not place greater emphasis on bringing those young folks fully up to speed in English?

I see this as 1/2 a play into PC (political correctness) and another 1/2 of pandering to the [mythically monolithic] 'Hispanic groups'. Rather than rationalizing excuses for us to speak newcomers languages, why not place greater pressure on those coming here to assimilate into our culture - the first step of which, is to learn how to communicate with us in our native language?

Barack Hussein Obama specifically said spanish. Everyone heard it but the MSM I guess.

I find it hard to believe that we have a candidate who has a questionable background pandering to one specific group of people.

I think Barack Hussein Obama is very confused. He must think he is running for president of Latin American countries and NOT America. AT LEAST THAT WOULD EXPLAIN HIS STUPIDITY.

He's probably going to give amnesty and formalize the NAU during his first week in office and he WILL be president of ALL the Americas! Did he mention whether or not he and his family speak Spanish???

    his family speak Spanish???
He does not. He's got translators. I got an E-mail from him before on this making English the official language. He told me he spoke an Africian tribe language and some other one I couldn't remember and I lost the letter......but in another report he said Indonesian, but not well.....

He said we have to cater to all languages because of safety issues and all and I pointed out, I haven't seen one tornado warning or anything posted in ANY other foreign language but Spanish. My children went to school and the notes were sent home with English on one side and Spanish on the other, even though we had alot of other foreign students in the school.

Well.....sorry this is where I dig my heels in. English is this countrys language and if I wanted to live in a Spanish country.....I'd move there.
