WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- With the primary election just a little more than a week away, campaigns are heating up. The two candidates battling for a chance to represent our area in the US House of Representatives have different opinions on many issues, including immigration law.

William Gheen is the president of Americans for Legal Immigration and a big supporter of Ilario Pantano. Gheen visited Wilmington this weekend to rally for Pantano. He believes the voting districts have been drawn in candidate David Rouzer's favor.

But he feels that if enough GOP voters know Pantano’s stance against illegal immigration, votes could change in Pantano’s favor.

"[Illegal immigration] is costing Americans and legal immigrants jobs. It's depreciating wages. It's a theft of taxpayer resources. Over $100,000,000,000 per year of federal dollars alone are being drained by illegal immigration,” Gheen said. “Then we have some of the criminal elements. Not all illegal aliens are murderers or hardened criminals, but we do have drunk driving crashes and other crimes caused by illegal immigration."

Coming up on WWAY NewsChannel 3 Monday evening, we'll hear from candidate David Rouzer about his feelings on immigration law and reform.

We want to know how much weight you put on a candidate’s stance on immigration law when casting your vote. Let us know by voting in our online poll, and we’ll announce the results on WWAY NewsChannel 3 Sunday night at 11.

Online Poll Do you think illegal immigration is an important election topic?
