The Crittendon-Johnson Amendment was a hood-wink for the border states, a trick of sorts, all's fair in love and war. Geez MW. Your education on this is really small. SAD!!

I minored in History and obviously the civil war was included in my studies. Your failure to comprehend and deny actual facts when presented before your very eyes is what amazes me. Do you also deny Abraham Lincoln's own words.
"My policy sought only to collect the Revenue (a 40 percent federal sales tax on imports to Southern States under the Morrill Tariff Act of 1861)." reads paragraph 5 of Lincoln's First Message to the U.S. Congress, penned July 4, 1861.
"I have no purpose, directly or in-directly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so," Lincoln said it his first inaugural on March 4 of the same year.
There is no proof of Lincoln ever declaring the war was fought to abolish slavery."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

What does that have to do with the Civil War? The Southern states have already seceded a year earlier, they left our country in 1860, before the Civil War started and the Morill Tariff was passed, which all occurred in 1861. The Confederacy states are no longer part of the United States by the time of Lincoln's inaugural address and his first address to Congress. At the time of his inaugural address the War hadn't started, it started the next month, but it was in progress by the time he gave his first address to Congress.
Confederate states are foreign entities at this point in time. So of course if they want to sell something into our country, they will have to pay the Morill Tariff, same as say .... England. There were some states of the United States that still had slavery, these are the border states and Lincoln is speaking to them reassuring them that he isn't going to take any action against them over slavery, and he never did. Republicans would handle them after the war, with amendments to the Constitution, if they hadn't already ended it themselves, some did, some didn't.
I think you missed part of your homework for history class.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan
