Friends of American Freedom Riders and Supporters of Nacho Ramos and Jose Compean,

You are invited to aggressively participate in the "Free Ramos and Compean" campaign.

We are all determined to continue the fight to free Nacho Ramos and Jose Compean and the American Freedom Riders feel strongly that our noise level should remain high and constant. It is important that we convince the Justice Department and George Bush that the opposition to the imprisonment of these agents will continue to increase in volume rather than subside.

The implications of this fight go far beyond the treatment of agents Ramos and Compean. At stake here is the ability of all border Patrol agents to effectively enforce our immigration laws without fear of prosecution. Having talked to a lot of agents, it is clear that they have been forced into a passive mode of conduct.

While various individual events are currently in planning in different areas and will be very productive, we want to make a statement every single weekend around the entire country. Our recent 22 city protest was highly visible and it only makes sense to follow up on that effort and expand it. Considering the short preparation time and the unbearably cold weather in some parts of the country, our January 13 nationwide protest was a truly inspirational display of patriotism. Let's build on it.

The plan is outlined below and is supported by everyone I have talked to so far:

Our protest participants will be divided into four groups, one group for each weekend of the month. Each weekend, the cities in the scheduled group will hold a public protest on behalf of the agents. We believe that more cities will join us as our effort becomes known and that we will soon be a force which is difficult to ignore - a constant noise which will bring increased awareness to the general public. As our force grows, so too will our influence.

The proposed schedule is as follows for our "Free Ramos and Compean" campaign.

As new cities come on board they will be assigned to a weekend which best serves to increase our weekly volume and geographic diversity. We will encourage all new groups to come on board, no matter how small. This is an opportunity to increase our strength and volume throughout the country and begin the practice of a cooperative effort which we badly need.

While the federal courthouses were appropriate for the January 13 activity and still may be, we should be creative about future locations. We should make every effort to be seen by the largely unaware general public. In Phoenix we may even consider high traffic areas in shopping malls. Perhaps in front of major newspaper offices in an effort to force them to report on this story. High visibility and increased awareness are our goals.

We should all make every effort to announce and continuously promote events in other areas every week. Press releases, visible website exposure, e-mail outs, etc. Every weekend is important to our overall success.

We have all promised ourselves that we will fight for these agents to the end. Some of us have promised this to Nacho and Jose face to face. We must remain absolutely dedicated. I personally have come to view Nacho Ramos and his family and friends as part of my family. They are America at its best and the American Freedom Riders will never quit fighting for them. If you have the opportunity to raise cash for the agents, please do so. Both of their financial situations are serious and I know for a fact that Nacho's is desperate.
