2010: U.S. Senator Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, wants to amend the U.S. Constitution to deny automatic citizenship to babies born to illegal immigrants.
Legal experts say the effort by two U.S. senators to amend the Constitution so that babies born in this country to undocumented immigrants cannot automatically get citizenship stands little chance of succeeding.

“The framers of the Constitution made it very difficult to ratify it,â€

We need an email for Rand Paul. He's one of those saps w/o a Senate homepage and only 1 phone number.

I'm fairly sure this same thing can be done without needing an amendment simply clarifying the words on the 14th amendment which wouldn't need the President or states involved and only require a simple majority. No new law has to be passed. Just defining what "under the Jurisdiction" means through congress.

How is it that other countries that use to grant birthright citizenship did away with this and, its going to be so hard for the U.S.A. to be able to do the same thing. this should have been stopped a long time ago. further more, they all know that this amendment did not in any way clear the way for "ILLEGAL ALIENS" to benefit from said amendment. I thought that it was up to congress to pass laws in this country, but it seems as though hispanics in high places are calling the shots. this is all a result of the other times these people have been given amnesty. thats my opinion and, I'm sticking to it.

One more thing, why is it that they are showered with public benefits just because the "ANCHOR BABIES" are proclaimed to be U.S. citizens this is not given to anyother parent/parent's who have a kid. and I mean this is not something that is given to Citizens of this country. and it shouldn't be given to them either The federal government has no right to be using the taxpayers money in this manner. this is why "STUPID" pregnant women risk swimming across the RIO GRANDE in labor just to give birth on American soil. "THIS HAS GOT TO STOP." The more you think about it, our government is a big part of the problem of illegal immigration in this country

    Yep.

The 14th Amendment gives Congress the power to enforce it. The Reconquista crowd is claiming that that amendment bestows automatic citizenship to anchor babies. All Congress needs to do is pass a resolution which reiterates the intent of the people who wrote that amendment. Foreignors and aliens were specifically not recognized as being citizens of the United States. That means that illegals cannot convey citizenship to their children, because that status was never theirs to convey.

Repubs - and any Demos who still believe in this country - should also reference the Oath of Citizenship, which I think has been used for c.100 years. The Oath requires legal residents to give up their allegiance to the government which had previously exercised jusrisdiction over them.

    This is not rocket science.

Most countries don't have such a hardline complex political system and if they want something passed have fewer ways to oppose it. The US's political machine has gotten way to big and we've ignored these issues for so long wanting to set a warm feel good feeling around the world. Now after its gottan far worse then any other country with those illegals having rights apparently to many politicians on top want to pander to them for their own wallet filling.

This is one of the issues we have to face that is tied to such an expansive government. Gotta deal with 9 SC judges who half aren't really about the law but about a political agenda. Then deal with a 100 member senate. Then deal with 435 house seats. Then lastly deal with the President.

With so many ways to oppose things that don't suit a politicians wallet doing anything for the people and not for the rich and political lobbists is extremely hard.

But well thats our system. It can be made it work again but requires massive change as far as corporate and foreign lobbists.
