    America’s Dangerous “Illegal” Addiction

    http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/te ... ?id=627709

The Amnesty program of 1986 had dire consequences for America- consequences we are doomed to repeat if Congress and the Bush Administration get their way with the so-called “guest worker program.” FSM Contributing Editor Michael Cutler explains.

    America’s Dangerous “Illegal” Addiction

    By Michael Cutler

It is amazing what an impact a miniscule bit of pressure can have! There are millions of illegal aliens who are present and working in our nation, yet a couple of high profile raids in which a tiny fraction of one percent of the illegal alien population gets arrested creates an amazing outcry. That is because this administration is even worse on the illegal alien crisis than Clinton’s.

The Bush administration has made it abundantly clear that even in the wake of the attacks of 9/11 our borders will be left wide open. Incredibly, the President has even recently called for an expansion of the dangerous Visa Waiver Program. And most recently, two Border Patrol agents were, in my humble opinion, railroaded directly into jail cells to send a message of intimidation to all Border Patrol agents.

Our nation's greedy employers are suffering from an addiction and our politicians are more than happy to be their suppliers. The addiction: Greed and the cheap and compliant labor that illegal aliens provide. Special interest groups that seek to swell their numbers and increase their political leverage are quick to do whatever they can to aid and abet the employers who exploit their own people; this is the ultimate squeeze play!

Illegal aliens are encouraged to flee the grinding poverty of their home countries by entering our country illegally. The leaders of their home countries are eager for their citizens to come here because they know that by exporting their citizens they export poverty. They also export the potential for insurrection because their citizens who generally run our borders are young, able-bodies men- a.k.a. the people who would most likely take up arms and rebel if they had to remain at home. These aliens take enormous risks to come here, get abused, robbed and beaten up by the alien smugglers. Female aliens are often brutally raped. The illegal aliens work long hours under filthy and hazardous conditions and are often swindled out of the meager pay they are promised. Their salaries are substantially lower than are the prevailing wages that United States citizens or resident aliens would demand. And then, special interest groups who know damn well that these aliens are routinely mistreated encourage still more of these illegal aliens to enter our country to face a similar fate!

We hear the same nonsense every time the issue of illegal immigration is raised. We are told that the illegal aliens do the work that Americans won't do. Nonsense! The illegal aliens do jobs Americans cannot afford to do if they plan to support themselves and their families.

Legalizing these illegal aliens would not be the panacea that those who favor a guest worker amnesty program would have you believe. The reason I know this to be a fact is because of my experience at the former INS during the implementation of the Amnesty of 1986. From that experience, I can tell you there are a couple things we will need to remember.

First, this “open door” to the U.S. will only serve to bring in many more illegal aliens. Congress has now made it clear even though a border fence that was approved, reluctantly, by the President, it will never be built. It is not that the fence alone would solve the problem. As I have stated on numerous occasions, the fence should be thought of as only one of many strategies that we should use to secure the borders and restore integrity to the entire immigration system.

Secondly, the reason illegal aliens are so desired by employers in the United States. They are the contemporary version of slave labor. They work under terrible, often illegal conditions for substandard wages. That means when these illegal aliens become legal, they will make the same demands of their employers that American citizens would make. Suddenly, these now legal aliens would no longer be attractive to exploitive employers. The unscrupulous employers will fire the newly emboldened alien employees and replace them with the next wave of illegal aliens who will pour across the borders of the United States, encouraged that yet another amnesty program. Meanwhile, our nation will have to deal with millions of newly minted legal aliens who have lost their jobs and their families.

This is what happened in the wake of the Amnesty of 1986. That is why after that supposedly one shot amnesty program, our nation suffered the greatest influx of illegal aliens in the history of our nation.

The world has changed considerably since 1986. Our nation has suffered a number of terrorist attacks, some overseas and others were committed within our borders. Violent gang members are flooding our country along with narcotics. A guest worker amnesty program for millions of illegal aliens whose true names and identities are unknown and ultimately unknowable would create a situation whereby terrorists could acquire official identity documents. The overworked employees of USCIS are incapable of doing their jobs right now. There is no way that these millions of aliens could be effectively screened in order to determine their true identities or their true intentions. Our officials would not have the resources to even know how long they have been here.

We have been told that the government would investigate of these applicants to weed out the criminals. Our politicians make all sorts of promises that they cannot possibly fulfill. We have become conditioned to expect that when most politicians make promises, they will not deliver. Sometimes this means that taxes are raised and the public gets angry. All of us remember George Bush Senior making that notorious statement when he said, "Read my lips, no new taxes!" Then he was elected and raised taxes! Many political pundits have attributed Mr. Bush's defeat by "dark horse" candidate Bill Clinton to the promise Mr. Bush failed to keep. The issue of immigration has far more dire implications; nothing less than the survival of our nation and lives of our citizens are on the line.

We are being told that aliens will be investigated but few are asking a very important question: "HOW?" How can a few thousand employees and a couple of thousand ICE agents investigate the millions of illegal aliens who have no authentic identity documents to determine who they are, how long they have lived here, or even determine where they came from? Running a false name on a computer is worthless. Running fingerprints will only yield results if that person has been previously fingerprinted in our country. Terrorists are quite shrewd and know that they need to keep a low profile in order to accomplish their missions. That is how sleeper agents operate.

Here are links to some reports and press releases that illustrate just how incompetent our government has been at creating a secure immigration bureaucracy and how this creates a national security nightmare:

I am often asked why politicians are so willing to do this to our nation, especially after the attacks of 9/11. I believe that the answer is not that difficult. All too many politicians have one goal: To get reelected. They will do virtually anything to accomplish that goal. In order to do this they need two things: votes and campaign contributions. It boggles my mind, having been a federal agent for roughly 30 years.

A law enforcement officer is not allowed to take a cup of coffee from someone because it is feared that the officer, whether he is a city cop of a federal agent, will be compromised by that cup of coffee. Yet politicians boast about being effective fund raisers! Do you really believe that when someone writes a check for thousands of dollars to contribute to a political party or a politician's campaign that he is not expecting that his contribution will buy him access or perhaps enable him to make demands on the politicians or the political party?

I also believe that the massive influx of new citizens that an amnesty program would provide would help some politicians retain political power. For most politicians, long term planning means thinking about the next election. These factors, along with low voter turnout and the general apathy of our citizens, amplify the political leverage wielded by the special interest groups. Democracy is not a spectator sport. On May 1, 2006, hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens and their supporters took to the street defiantly chanting, "Yes I can!" Many of our politicians have made it clear that they can indeed. They can expect to get whatever they want because there are politicians who come from both sides of the political aisle yet belong to the same party. They belong to the "Pander Party!"

It is time for citizens of our nation to stand up and make it clear to our elected representatives that they were elected to represent us; "We the people!"

Illegal aliens are indeed the contemporary equivalent of slave labor. Other sad historical continuities can be found if you think about it more.
"We have a sacred, noble obligation in this country to defend the rule
of law. Without rule of law, without democracy, without rule of law being
applied without fear or favor, there is no freedom."

    Senator Chuck Schumer 6/11/2007

Hang in there. There's about 200 million of us trying to help them escape. It'll be OK.
