the american dream-does it require illegal workers?

Marriage,2 kids, home ownership,2 cars, upgrades of cars, computers, the home, and cell phones. All these thing cost money of coarse.Oft times this requires income from jobs by both the male and the female of the house.Somebody has to watch the kids:a reasonably priced nanny. Not enough time on off days to really enjoy them.Somebody's got to do that yard:gardeners. That add-on to the house would be even nicer if it were cheaper. The guy with the illegal workers seems to have the best prices of the contractors.Never thought I'd ever own horses. Now I don't have time to take care of the ones I own.My fellow equestrian loving friends say they know someone cheap...
We can't be so 'ME' and complain about problems that are also encoured by 'ME'.Like anything else, lessen the demand to slow down supply. The key part of migrant work is that when there is no work for them they migrate.Keeping up with the Jones' because the sacred TV has spoken is killing our society almost as much as the illegal invasion from elsewhere.

Rick--great post and you are on to something here.....these are choices every American, every true American is going to have to make. If you hire illegals you are cheating another American out of something, a job, extra income, or revenue for their business.

I don't know WHERE our politicians ever got the idea that we wanted cheaper priced stuff. The most expensive elements of our lives are:

    1) home mortgage or rent (seen any decline in that in the past 5 years of this massive illegal immigration---nope----the reverse, up up and away

    2) electricity and natural gas (seen any decline in that in the past 5 years of this massive illegal immigration---nope---the reverse, up up and away

    3) taxes (seen any decline in that in the past 5 years of this massive illegal immigration---some reduction in fedeal income tax, thank goodness. but all other taxes, i. e. social security, medicare, medicaid, state taxes, local taxes, sales taxes, fees, permits)---nope----the reverse, up up and away

    4) gasoline, diesel, heating oil, natural gas (seen any net decline in that in the past 5 years)----nope---the reverse, up up and away

    5) national debt which society will ultimately pay (that which has been legally accrued, not the other)(seen any decline in that in the past 5years)----nope----the reverse, up up and away

    6) trade deficit (seen any reduction in that in the past 5 years)-----nope----the reverse, up up and awaaaaaaaaaaay

    7) income to pay for all of the above (seen any decline in that over the past 5 years)-----well, now, here we've hit some pay dirt---we have seen a decline in income to pay for all of the above.....some have lost their jobs, millions in fact.....over the past 5 years so income is about the ONLY thing that that hasn't gone up up and away

Do we care really what we pay for a laundry basket or a t-shirt or a television or a cd or a cell phone? No. We really don't. These purchases are such a small percentage of our earnings, that these reductions in prices are of no consequence to the American People.

Whatever supply and demand is---if we want it and can afford it, great. If not, then we won't buy it. That is our system. When we do buy, we'll know that we are supporting our economy, each other, and our Nation. We'll have good years, great years, not so good, whatever....but under our system, it will be whatever it is.

We have and will continue to have safety nets to help those who need it and there are so many.

And you're right, this obsession that because someone else has it, we gotta, will need to change. Just buy it because you really really want it, not to show someone else you could.

We will wake up every day, walk out the door, smell the ozone, and say....you know....maybe we ought to work on that problem too....as Americans together..... and make our beautiful country more beautiful....and better every day in accordance with American Law which means quite simply, if we need to do something that law doesn't provide, to make our nation better, then we can march to our representatives and request a change and through a process the American People will decide whether it is needed or worthy of a change in our laws. Until then, we work within the system and prosecute those who don't.

We have a Constitution that provides the perfect system to both sustain and improve our nation. We should use it more often.

More people should see it like this. Here in the elitist Bay Area is perfect example of this. Many illegal Mexican drug operations launder their money through legitimate venues like Mexican restaurants. It is NOT Latinos who buy food at these restaurants,it's the Yuppies (who else is gonna pay $5.95 on up a couple times a day for the most basic-burrittos- of Mexican cuisine).Sixteen years ago one of my best friends was a beverage wholesale rep.The most popular Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood (and it's just a taqueria-taco/burritto shop) owner was a friend who was making $37,000 a day from a business whose main customers are Americans. That's right,$37,000 a day!Now he owns 3 shops. So just think how much money Americans actually spend without thinking that directly helps the illegal immigrant economy.

What most folks don't care about or realize when they advocate for and hire cheap labor in order to sustain their "I want everything now" lifesytle is that the true cost of that labor is passed on to everybody else through those 7 things Judy mentioned. They do have the immediate benefit of saving some cash but eventually it comes back to bite them too. It is like they are taking out a loan against the future without realizing the true usury interest rates they and the rest of us will pay. There are some pretty significant but largely intangible social costs as well like personal safety, stable neighborhoods, advancing a general disrespect for the law, loss of community if not country eventually -- but those things likely disproportionally affect somebody else who has a little less money more so they don't worry about those much either.

With broken borders, peak oil, natural gas depletion, can't offend anybody by saying no PCness, etc. along with private, corporate, and government greed it seems pretty scary to me.

What is happening is Devil's Work.

No decent human being from any nation, let alone, the USA would EVER support globalism and destroy the United States.

People....we've got to work our asses off and prepare for the worst case scenario immediately.

Globalism and capitalism are now almost interchangeble.

No, not really because American Capitalism includes as part of its economic model, freedom and democracy whereas:

Gobalism is based upon a controlled human population, "drones", which requires socialism under a ruling authority making almost all decisions concenring the "drones"---this society consists of ELITES running things and "DRONES" taking orders with no rights. Freedom and democracy can not function within Globalism...is messes up all their models, forecasts, and profits.
