Tons of Marijuana are Seized in Laredo

LAREDO, Tx.- Customs and Border Protection Inspectors confiscated a little more than 2 tons of marijuana that were hidden in a trailer that intended to cross into the United States.

Federal spokesman, Rick Pauza, informed that the seizure was registered on the World Trade bridge when Customs agents processed a 2000 Freightliner with Mexico plates.

The driver, a 29 year old mexican, was carrying a 1999 Wabash trailer with pallets of wheat. Authorities decided to send the unit to secondary where an x ray scanner located 144 hidden packages.

A total 4,359 pounds of marijuana were being transported with a street value of 4.3 million dollars. U.S Customs agents arrested the chauffeur and turned him over to Immigration and Customs Enforcements (ICE) to continue with with investigations.
