Groups unite to push for immigration reform
By: Kate Gaier

CHARLOTTE -- Dozens gathered Friday afternoon at Marshall Park in support of immigration reform. Several smaller groups in the Latin community came together to form one larger, united group.

They talked about fair treatment and practical solutions for immigrants in this country. They held signs talking about this common purpose and say they will be better heard speaking as one.

"We want to stay in touch and we want to stay up to date about what everybody is doing so that we can support it, and we also want to unite our efforts to the work that's being done at the national level," said Ruben Campillo, of the Latin American Coalition.

In May, the group says it wants to see 5,000 faxes, e-mails and phone calls made to the White House.
