Man charged in death of man found on Yarborough Avenue

A Winston-Salem man was charged yesterday with first-degree murder in the city's first homicide of 2006, authorities said.

Jose Alfredo Jimenez, 26, of 3719 Yarborough Ave. was arrested in connection with the death of Cesar Nino Mejia, who lived in Charlotte, Winston-Salem police said in a statement. Paramedics found Mejia in the 3700 block of Yarborough Avenue shortly after midnight.

Mejia appeared to have gunshot wounds in his chest, police said. An autopsy will be performed.

Jimenez is being held in the Forsyth County Jail with no bond allowed. He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 4.
