Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: November 19, 2009

(11/18/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 20,700 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested 15 criminal aliens and 11 gang members. There were four rocking incidents.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,275 pounds of marijuana, $2,700 in U.S. currency, and a 2001 Dodge truck near Roma, Texas. Agents observed several unidentified subjects loading bundles into the truck. The smugglers absconded after seeing the agents approach. Agents then discovered 84 bundles of marijuana in the truck and the currency in an area near the truck.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 783 pounds of marijuana, a 1992 Ford, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) near Alamo, Texas. Agents observed the vehicle drive south toward the Rio Grande River and then exit the area at a high rate of speed. Agents and a local law enforcement officer attempted a vehicle stop, but the driver failed to yield. The driver eventually came to a stop, absconded on foot, and was later arrested by agents with the assistance of Customs and Border Protection air assets. A search of the vehicle revealed 12 bundles of marijuana inside.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang member and had been convicted of assault in the State of Texas. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tucson, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 in the State of California. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Lordsburg, New Mexico. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Paisanos gang member. Records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tucson, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the State of California, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Naco, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sex with a minor in the State of California and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Naco, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was an MS-13 gang member with an extensive criminal history. He had also been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico and seized $300,000 in U.S. currency at the bus station near Claremont, California. Agents determined the subjects’ immigration statuses, which resulted in their arrest. A search of each subject revealed the currency sewn into their clothing.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. The subject claimed he had been assaulted in Mexico. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and released into Border Patrol custody. Records checks revealed the subject had extensive criminal and immigration histories, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Miami Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested 11 illegal aliens near Mims, Florida. Agents conducted a vehicle stop and discovered a 9mm pistol, two magazines, and a box of ammunition inside of a bag belonging to one of the aliens.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two subjects and seized 417 pounds of marijuana and two handguns near Brownsville, Texas. Border Patrol personnel observed two subjects loading bundles into the bed of a truck and observed the vehicle drive off. Agents located the vehicle, which had crashed into the wall of a local store. Agents arrested the passenger and local law enforcement officers discovered the driver at a nearby residence. The marijuana was discovered in the bed of the truck and the handguns were underneath the seats. The vehicle had been reported stolen.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,924 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Laredo, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System (VACIS) examination revealed anomalies in the cargo, and a search of the trailer revealed 48 cellophane wrapped bundles of marijuana.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,094 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search revealed 44 bundles concealed within the shipment of limes.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 4,545 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search of the cargo revealed 467 bundles concealed inside the trailer.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Kingsville, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being an MS-13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,422 pounds of marijuana near Hidalgo, Texas. Agents responded to activity in the area and discovered 33 bundles abandoned in heavy brush near the Rio Grande River.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Naco, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for felony sexual abuse in the State of Arizona and had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Latin Kings gang. Records checks revealed he had extensive criminal and immigration histories, and was the subject of an arrest warrant for armed/dangerous drugs in the State of Illinois.

Buffalo Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued two stranded hikers from a gorge after they placed a 911 distress call near Niagara Falls, New York. The hikers stated they became lost as darkness fell and could not find their way out of the gorge.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 6,006 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer, which contained a shipment of expired potato chips. A search revealed a false plywood compartment in the front of the trailer, which contained 328 bundles of marijuana covered with lime.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents encountered an unresponsive subject in a remote area near Comstock, Texas. Agents performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the subject until local emergency medical services (EMS) arrived. EMS declared the subject deceased and the scene was turned over to local law enforcement officials.

San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Chula Vista, California. Records checks revealed the subject was an MS-13 gang member and had a prior conviction for carrying a weapon in the State of Michigan. He had also been previously removed from the United States.


Swanton Sector – Border Patrol agents seized contraband tobacco, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Canada at the traffic checkpoint near North Hudson, New York. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search revealed 75 boxes of unprocessed tobacco.


Swanton Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 55 pounds of marijuana near Newport, Vermont. A concerned citizen reported seeing a fixed-wing aircraft drop two objects in a farm field. Agents responded and a Border Patrol canine located two hockey bags containing the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Mammoth, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual intercourse with a minor in the State of California and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño 13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had an extensive criminal history, to include attempted theft and carrying a loaded weapon in the State of California.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a registered sex offender in the State of Oregon and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,076 pounds of marijuana from an abandoned 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche near Sonoita, Arizona.
