SAN DIEGO – To write a book about the quality of life along the border, University of San Diego economist Joan B. Anderson drove “the whole U.S.-Mexican border on the roads that follow the border on the both sidesâ€

This guy doesn't know squat about the border, there is so much crime and corruption due to the drug cartles that no one goes uneffected.
Even the guy on the corner minding his own little taco stand depends on the money made from drug smuggling.

Figured you would comment on this MD.

Some so-called professional people want to explain the border when only people who live there really know what's going on eh?

From living experience, I can tell you what I was told while living in TX:

You're a white person (I'll leave out gender) living in a Mexican community. If you don't like it, leave!
How can you when you hold employment that requires your living in the State?
    From the Border Movie:

I will not sell my country out ~ I WILL NOT!
I'd like to see that pride back in AMERICA!!!

What most people don't understand is that the drug cartels and all that comes with it actually brings in money to the honest hard working folks, money exchanges hands for many reasons, sometimes it's drugs others times it's food but it's still the same money. Many of the small towns need the drug money to survive even though they are not involved with it.

MountainDog - I hope you are not serious. Illegal drugs and especially the cartels that deal in them bring misery and death. There are soooo many other ways people can earn money without benefiting from drug money. I pray for you if you are willing to accept drug cartels because they bring money into a community. The death and destruction far outweighs any monetary benefit to any community.

I am serious, did you ever watch the movie about Wyatt Earp and the cowboys, their gang was excepted due to the money they spent in town.
This is just the way things work.
This doesn't mean I accept it, in fact I fight it! I just know how it works.
I am one of it's worst enemies!!!

Trying to explain the border is hard, there's so much going on and things can change so fast.
Picture it as a game of chess where the rules can change anytime and nothing is what it seems to be
I should add here that I know a lot of good folks in Mexico and have spent some nice times down there. Their P-poor govt. is whats messing all this up!
I won't go down there anymore and I miss it! I have friends I would like to see.
