Immigration Raid Brings $450K Fine
By JOE HARRIS
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (CN) - Federal prosecutors say George's Inc. employed 136 illegal aliens at its Cassville, Mo. poultry plant. Prosecutors seek a $450,000 fine and other sanctions for the May 22, 2007 immigration raid.
The United States says that after the raid, George's promised to comply with federal employment and immigration laws. As part of the agreement, George's agreed that the U.S. should file the suit.
George's, based in Arkansas, operates three poultry facilities in Arkansas, Virginia and Missouri and employs 4,000 workers.
Prosecutors asked the court to prohibit George's from knowingly hiring illegal aliens; require it to cooperate with the investigation; require George's to ensure that all workers are eligible to work in the U.S.; require it to implement a compliance program; require it to train its human resources department in employment eligibility; and pay the $450,000 fine to promote programs and activities by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Using E-Verify is a lot cheaper than a $450,000 fine, going to court and getting your business name ruined.
