AZ: District Asked Prevent Immigration Law in Schools

District asked prevent immigration law in schools

    Associated Press - June 5, 2010 5:44 PM ET

PHOENIX (AP) - Activists are asking the Phoenix Union High School District to prevent school resource officers from enforcing of the state's new immigration law on campus.

The law, which goes into effect July 29, requires police to question anyone they suspect is in the country illegally and makes it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally.

Linda Brown of the Arizona Advocacy Network asked Phoenix Union board members on Thursday to show leadership and restore dignity to students by blocking school officers from complying with the law.

Phoenix Union lawyer Lynne C. Adams says school-resource officers are employees of the Phoenix police department, not the district.

A majority of the 25,000 students in the Phoenix Union district are Hispanic.

Why in the world would they agree to this when school-resource officers are employees of the Phoenix police department, not the district! Are other laws exempt from being enforced on a school campus? Schools are not sanctuaries, whereby laws are exempt from being enforced. What type of precedent would that set?

Get a clue lady! The law was passed and it's going to be enforced!

I hope they round up all of those illegal children who would qualify for that Dream Act.

To show "leadership and restore dignity" would mean to OBEY THE LAW!
