Two MS-13 gangbangers plead guilty in Angeles slaying

Two members of the street gang known as MS-13 have pleaded guilty for their roles in the Stafford County slaying of 21-year-old Shannah Marie Angeles.

Angeles, a resident of Palatine, Ill., outside of Chicago, was shot to death in the woods off Joshua Road on July 18, according to evidence presented at a preliminary hearing. Her body was found four days later.

Five suspected members of the street gang Mara Salvatrucha were later charged in connection with the slaying. Witnesses said the gang members killed Angeles because they believed she was a member of a rival gang.

Luis Antonio "Crimen" Serrano-Gutierrez, 19, of Woodbridge, pleaded guilty yesterday in Stafford Circuit Court to first-degree murder, conspiracy, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and participating in gang activity. He will be sentenced March 28.

Daniel A. "Slow" Bonilla-Delcid, 25, of Alexandria pleaded guilty Friday to conspiracy and participating in gang activity.

Bonilla-Delcid is described as the leader of the MS-13 clique that killed Angeles, and prosecutors say he authorized the hit.

Bonilla-Delcid will be facing a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison when he is sentenced March 27.

Serrano-Gutierrez and Bonilla-Delcid had been scheduled for three-day jury trials that would have started today.

Of the other three suspects, 17-year-old Henry "Droopy" Mejivar is the only one who has not been arrested.

Edward A. "Spunky" Perez testified for the prosecution at a preliminary hearing and has a trial pending.

Jose Santos "Little Blue" Portillo-Chicas, 31, of Woodbridge has a trial scheduled to start July 9 on multiple charges, including capital murder.

According to the evidence, Angeles had come to the Northern Virginia area to visit a friend. On July 18, witnesses said, she got into a car with her suspected killers thinking she was going to a party.

Instead, she was brought to Stafford and executed. Perez testified that Portilla-Chicas and Mejivar took Angeles into the woods and shot her.

Not the kind of party I'd want to attend.
