PHOENIX - Gov. Jan Brewer faces a Wednesday deadline for asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a ruling that put the most controversial parts of Arizona's immigration enforcement law on hold.

Brewer spokesman Matthew Benson says lawyers representing the governor intend on filing the appeal by the deadline.

The governor lost an appeal earlier this year when the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals refused to reverse a lower court's ruling that prevented key parts of Senate Bill 1070 from being enforced.

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton had blocked requirements that immigrants obtain or carry immigration registration papers and that police, while enforcing other laws, question a person's immigration status if officers had reasonable suspicion the person was in the country illegally.
