Occupy Wall Street protests draw in pro-migrant community

On September 17, protestors in New York City began a demonstration that has since become a nationwide movement termed Occupy Wall Street. Those organizing the movement argue that they represent the ninety-nine percent of the U.S. population that is tired of the nation’s wealth being concentrated in the pockets of the richest one percent. They encourage U.S.-wide solidarity against corporate greed, economic inequality and the fusion of money and politics. As of Monday, the NYC protest has been ongoing for seventeen days, and has sparked smaller demonstrations in cities throughout the country, including Washington D.C., Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and Denver.

In Southern Arizona, Occupy Wall Street protests have already begun in Tucson, and more are scheduled later this month in this city as well as in Phoenix. On Saturday, October 1, over one hundred concerned Tucsonans gathered on Congress St., carrying signs with messages such as “War = Corporations Making a Killingâ€
