WINDSOR LOCKS — A deported immigrant was arrested at Bradley International Airport Tuesday after he presented a fake identification card at a motor vehicle stop and admitted he had been using his dead cousin's name, state police said.

Marvin Yovani Martinez, 33, of Russ Street in Hartford, was charged with second-degree forgery, criminal impersonation and interfering with an officer.

The arrest happened about 1:15 a.m. after he was pulled over. He gave the state trooper a U.S. resident alien card which was found to be false, according to state police at the Troop W barracks. He admitted he had bought it in New York.

When he was arrested on the forgery charge, police took his fingerprints and learned that he was not who he said he was. He had used the name Wilson Martinez, the name of his deceased cousin, state police said.

He was arrested on impersonation and interfering charges, and his bail was increased from $1,000 to $10,000 cash. State police contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The federal agency was expected to take Martinez into custody if he posts bail, state police said.
