RGV Agents Arrest 41 Migrants in Three Smuggling Cases
RGV Agents Arrest 41 Migrants in Three Smuggling Cases
Release Date: October 5, 2021
EDINBURG, Texas –Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol (RGV) agents respond to two human smuggling stash houses and a highway smuggling attempt on Oct. 4.
In the early morning hours, a Border Patrol agent observed a white Dodge Ram truck pick up several subjects from the brush on Highway 285. Agents attempted to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Corral Street and Highway 77, but the driver failed to yield.
The truck veered off-road and several subjects exited the vehicle and ran into the brush. After searching the nearby area, agents located four illegally present migrants from Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.
The driver was not located.
Stash house bust.
Later that evening, at approximately 7 p.m., RGV agents assisted Starr County Sheriff’s Office deputies execute a warrant at a residence in Roma, Texas, known for illegal activity. Upon entering the apartment, law enforcement officials discovered seven illegally present migrants and one caretaker, a United States citizen.
The seven migrants, including an unaccompanied child, are from Mexico, El Salvador, and Romania.
Additionally, 30 subjects were arrested at a human smuggling stash house in Edinburg, Texas.
All subjects are being processed accordingly.
Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the health and safety of migrants or the citizens of the U.S. they may encounter. The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
