Arizona Gov. Brewer Urges Supreme Court to Hear Immigration Law Appeal

PHOENIX – Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is urging the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case involving the state's immigration law.

Brewer's office on Tuesday filed a reply with the high court regarding Arizona's petition for a Writ of Certiorari in the SB 1070 litigation initiated by the federal government.

In August, Brewer petitioned the Supreme Court to take review and lift an injunction that blocked critical provisions of the tough immigration law from taking effect.

The federal government has since asked that the high court deny Arizona's petition and that the injunction remain in place.

Brewer says "illegal immigration is not just Arizona's problem, it is America's problem."

She says other states such as South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and Utah have followed Arizona's lead in adopting SB 1070-like legislation.
