Obama, Hispanic Lawmakers Discuss Immigration
Obama, Hispanic Lawmakers Discuss Immigration
Tuesday, 29 Jun 2010 08:40 PM
President Barack Obama is following up two days of meetings on U.S. immigration policy with a speech Thursday on the need for a comprehensive solution to what he and others have said is a broken system.
Obama discussed immigration and the speech at a White House meeting Tuesday with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. He held similar talks with advocates and labor leaders a day earlier.
Although prospects for getting an immigration bill through Congress this election year are bleak, the White House says that Obama on Tuesday discussed his desire for Democrats and Republicans to build on a proposal by Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.
The plan calls for illegal immigrants to admit they broke the law, pay fines and back taxes and perform community service if they want to get on a pathway to legal status. They also would be required to pass background checks and be proficient in English.
Graham since has balked at moving forward on immigration this year, no other Senate Republican has come forward to replace him and Obama insists that nothing will happen on immigration without Republican support that he recognizes is virtually nonexistent.
Latino leaders said after Monday's meeting that they will begin working to pressure Republicans to support a bill.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday that Obama's speech will largely reiterate past statements on the need for a comprehensive solution, that immigration policy is a federal responsibility and that the U.S. can't afford a patchwork of state immigration laws.
Arizona recently enacted a law requiring police enforcing another statute to clarify a person's immigration status if there's reason to believe the individual is in the U.S. illegally. Several states and communities are considering following Arizona's lead.
Obama has called Arizona's law "misguided" and, at his request, the Justice Department is reviewing it for possible civil rights violations.

Enforce the laws and secure the border instead of holding the security of the citizens and their property and jobs hostage.

Who does Pres. Obama represent? He has two days worth of meetings with Hate Groups representing illegals, but none with groups that represent the American citizens. Why doesn't he have meetings with groups like ALIPAC. He is ignoring and shutting us out
Strange how he acknowledges all these groups representing illegal aliens but chooses to ignore the American citizen. He instead is trying to make any opposition to Amnesty a political ploy by the Republicans.
What is it going to take to make him pay attention to the American public?

LOL. Of course those Latino Groups want a break for illegals from Mexico.
If they proposed that every illegal returned home and re-applied for entry like every LEGAL immigrant, then it would make sense. They just want a break to legalize illegals - Mexicans - either instantly or over a period of time.
Where were the representatives for OTHER ethnic groups?

This is being featured on "On the Record" (FOX) now. According to Greta, Obama is going to make a speech at American University tomorrow. Luis Gutierrez was the guest for this segment. He says Obama will announce the need for national comprehensive immigration reform and the Administration's plan to bring this into reality. Greta brought up the need to "secure the border" first; Gutierrez brushed her off. He replied to her question about E-Verify by announcing the startling untruth that the "government's own studies show that E-Verify is 50% ineffective"! He's all about people "who want to work" and a "secure Social Security card with biometric information". Never mind that the 30-day Visa cards issued by the Mexican govenment--which have the owner's photograph and fingerprints-- to allow limited entry into border states like Texas are being "rented" and sold to others to use to enter the United States, and the our government thinks that Mexican criminal groups are actively trying to learn to duplicate them to sell on the street.
Gutierrez also sticks to "cooks and gardners", although Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard (D), who preceeded him, gave an excellent, to-the-point account of his advice to Obama's delegation which just came to Phoenix. Goddard said what they are fighting in Arizona are well-organized, well-funded, technologically-sophisticated and heavily armed foreign criminal organizations such as those which once took over Columbia, are now taking over Mexico, and which are moving steadily into the United States. He said he "had been fighting this a long time", and these people "are not Boy and Girl Scouts".Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
