Arpaio Says Illegal Immigrant Hotline Off to Great Start

Sheriff Joe Arpaio says his latest campaign to catch illegal immigrants is off to a great start. He says his new illegal immigrant hotline has been ringing off the hook.

Arpaio unveiled his hotline for people to report illegal immigrants during a press conference on Friday. He admitted it received about 47 crank calls in the first day.

"It's OK. You expect to have that. This is a very controversial problem that we have - a lot of people on both sides of the fence are very active on this illegal immigration," he said.

The hotline has received over 305 calls so far.

Arpaio said no arrests have been made, but investigations are underway.

"We just don't go there and go through the door. We use proper law enforcement techniques to make the case."

He said he's not concerned about being accused of racial profiling, and hopes the hotline will lead to arrests in other unsolved crimes. "Maybe somebody will call and we'll solve some homicides."

Why can't everybody have the no-nonsense attitude that Arpaio has? He doesn't take any crap from anybody. He knows he's within the law.

I love the way he just dismisses the rhetoric and standard arguments that pro-illegals always spout off.

Sheriff Arpaio is a hero.

It is called money being paid under the table to look the other way.

It is really funny, I talked with people in AZ who 'just don't like him'. They think he is rude and crude - but they say they wouldn't vote for anyone else.

In other words, they want him because he is doing the job - not because he's smooth and smarmy.
