I'm posting this in news section even though in most cases it doesn't directly deal with illegal immigration. But in this case when they are funds from Arpaio's county it impedes him doing the good work he's been doing.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas are seeking a temporary restraining order and lawsuit against the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in order to stop sweeping of funds designated for law enforcement.

Arpaio and Thomas have deemed the sweeping of the $11 million that the state legislature has established for law enforcement as unlawful.

The pair said it illegal for the board to raid funds the state has reserved for specific purposes.

They added the money was collected from fees, fines and penalties, not from taxes.

The Arizona Supreme Court recently voted down a similar attempt to investigate funds from cities and towns.

In addition, Arizona water and power districts have also challenged two funds sweep by the state.

Arpaio and Thomas compared their situations to these recent rulings.

"It is unfortunate that the Board of Supervisors voted to illegally raid funds designated for law enforcement. Their action violated a very recent ruling by the Arizona Supreme Court," Arpaio and Thomas stated in a press release.

Superior Court Judge Andrew Klein is assigned to hear arguments for the case.
