MCSO releases tallies for West Valley crime sweep
    Staff report
    August 18, 2008 - 10:35AM
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said his department doesn't know where its next crime sweep will be, but expects it to be in the "very near future."

The sheriff's comments came as he released the final figures for last week's operation in the West Valley.

A total of 109 suspects were arrested, and 80 were identified as being in the United States illegally.

A total of 32 illegal immigrants were booked into jail for various crimes. Of those, 23 were taken to jail for violating the Arizona human smuggling law. Thirty U.S. citizens also were jailed on state charges, MCSO reported.

Thirteen warrants were cleared, including one illegal alien suspect wanted for the felony crime of burglary.

"We have concluded another successful operation enforcing the Arizona human smuggling law," Arpaio said in a release. "We will decide where our next operation will take place."

The release stated the next operation will be in the "very near future."http://www.yourwestvalley.com/news/operation_3433___article.html/crime_release.html
