Arrest in assault on Border Patrol agents

A man suspected of assaulting two U.S. Border Patrol agents who tried to stop his vehicle in Valley Center last month was arrested following an extensive investigation, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials said Friday.
A federal warrant was issued for the arrest of the man, identified only as a 29-year-old Mexican national who was in the country illegally.
The man was driving a Dodge Dakota pickup truck in Valley Center on June 18 when agents stopped the vehicle. As they walked toward the truck, the driver sped off, dragging one agent a short distance and striking the other with the pickup.
The agents suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, CBP officials said.
On Thursday, agents went to a Fallbrook home where the suspect was believed to be staying. He left the residence about 6:40 a.m. with two other people in a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Agents followed the truck a short distance and arrested the suspect outside a drive-through restaurant.
The man is being held in federal custody.
