New Detention Center For Illegal Immigrants Opens

SAN ANTONIO -- A new state-of-the-art detention center for illegal immigrants opened Tuesday in Pearsall.

The South Texas Detention Complex will be able to house 1,020 illegal immigrants and has a 67-bed hospital.

"This is an incredible facility that sets a new standard for excellence," said Marc J. Moore, field office director for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in San Antonio.

The facility can accommodate men in eight pods of 64 and four pods of 32. Another 150 women can be housed in three pods of 40 and two pods of 20. Each dorm pod has a separate secure outdoor exercise area.

The detention center is a contract detention facility owned and operated by Correctional Services Corp., which has a $1.9 million five-year contract to operate the facility.

Let us hope they have a quick turnover for the occupants--on the way south.

I hope it has it's own landing strip to fly them out as soon as they get processed, which should be done in 48 hours. The flights should go to the South Pole. Let them cross back over the border from there

This sounds like an advertisment for a resort, if you ask me. Sixty-seven bed hospital? Are you sure this isn't a state of the art rest stop for illegals headed north?

How about some information on what qualifies an illegal to go here, how long they stay, and how they are returned to their country.

Why didn't they take an old school and turn it into a detention center, and build a new state of the art school for our kids?

I just read on another thread about this facility. The other story says it has a 22 bed clinic, and sounds more like a detention center than this. I just wonder which one is correct? Does it have a 67 bed hospital or a 20 bed clinic? There's a huge difference in the description of this place. The other one sounds more efficient for it's purpose. So if the other one is the correct description, I withdraw my complaints.
