Democratic Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez is unveiling his own plan in the health care debate. It’s a proposal that would require both employers and employees to contribute what he calls a “fair share” toward coverage. However that amount has not been determined. Jenny O'Mara reports.
Nunez says the primary goal of his plan is to insure all children in California —regardless of their citizenship.

Nunez: When a child is sick, that child is sick and if he has an infection and it’s contagious, then it’s contagious and someone else is going to get it. Diseases don’t discriminate and neither should we.

Some Republicans have opposed extending benefits to undocumented immigrants. Republican Leader Mike Villines says Nunez’s proposal would force employers to cut jobs. Meanwhile Governor Schwarzenegger says he applauds the Speaker’s contribution to the debate and will unveil his plan next month.

This is communism. Our country is doomed. We are being turned into a one-stop shopping point for Mexican welfare while American citizens are thrown out of work to make room for hiring illegal aliens.

The Nunez plan is obviously flawed. The plan includes having illegal immigrants contribute to a state-wide health plan. How can illegals do that, especially when they can't be legally employed? Is Nunez requesting that California lawmakers ignore our immigration laws, knowing full well that his plan encourages employers to ignore the immigration status of hires? This plan is plan should be a none-starter, but than again nothing regarding illegal immigrants that happens in California surprises me!

We insured in CA already pay for the uninsured but obviously it isn't enough since hospitals are closing. And med insurance now is usually paid both by employees and employers. How will most of the illegals pay into this system when most are paid 'under the table?' Guess those with fake ss#'s could. Arnold must be talking with his uncle Teddy too much. Doesn't Massachusetts have medical coverage similar to this proposed plan? Then again how many illegals are there in MA compared to CA? No one compares to us, we're the big fat winners (or loosers).
I get so embarrassed of this state sometimes, use to be a great place too.
