Atlanta Woman Admits Forging Immigration Documents
Woman Admits Forging Immigration Documents
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- An Atlanta woman faces up to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to use a sham marriage to illegally keep an Israeli man in the United States.
Twenty-two-year-old Kelly Monica Reed entered her plea yesterday in U.S. District Court in Charleston, West Virginia. She admitted to submitting false documents to the U-S Citizenship and Immigration Services concerning her marriage to Shachar Naim.
Kelly said she married Naim -- originally of Hadera, Israel -- in October 2004. But the marriage had unraveled by September 2006, when the couple submitted false documents to an immigration officer indicating they were living together as husband and wife.
Reed told Chief U.S. District Judge David Faber that by the time of the interview, she was spending most of her time in Atlanta.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Monica Schwartz says Naim was living with another woman in Charleston at the time.
Reed and Naim were both indicted in March. And according to court records, there is an outstanding warrant for Naim's arrest.
Reed is scheduled to be sentenced on October ninth.
