MARFA, Texas — A Mexican man is accused of smuggling an illegal immigrant who died after crossing the border in the Big Bend National Park.

Pablo Chavez Ballegos, 35, is charged with immigrant smuggling.

U.S. Border Patrol officials say Chavez led a group of seven people, including four juveniles from El Salvador, across the border and into the sprawling and rugged park last week. One of the men in the group, who has not been identified, was found dead near the river hours after the rest of the group was found in the park.

Several of the immigrants were treated for dehydration.
