    ICE in Travis Co. Jail
Letter from groups to Travis County Sheriff's Dept. (54.5KB)

Many held signs outside of the Travis County jail protesting ICE's presence inside. Austinites protested federal immigration agents presence inside Travis County jails Tuesday on the front steps of the building.

The group says giving Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, an office inside the county jail isn't fair. So along with protesting, the group delivered a letter of protest to the sheriff Tuesday.

The crowd also took turns voicing concerns of racial profiling and of dividing families. Leaders are worried an increased presence of ice will compromise public safety. They say documented and undocumented immigrants will fear reporting crimes because they could be removed from the country.

Sheriff Greg Hamilton responded to their concerns, saying it's his job to keep the community safe and that means working with other law enforcement agencies.

He says ICE agents have come to the jail for decades and he's not ready to change his mind about their presence.

"They [the protestors] go out there and they misrepresent. We only have one office and that office is being used by Texas Rangers, ICE, and TABC. It's nothing new,â€

More county jails should make the decision to have ICE operations or train their personnel in removal proceedings. Stop the release of illegal aliens who often become fugitives.

ICE needed to pull up about 20 buses outside during the protest ... seems to me to be a good pickings at the picket lines for deportations

they dont want me doing it... I would clean house after I was done with the illegal aliens

I would lock up the politicians that pander to Illegal Aliens voting "Bread and Water" hard labor... they would be picking mater's and Tater's for Many, Many Years

I wouldnt deport.. I would lock them up for a 10 year stint before I booted them out

The state of Texas capitol, is in Austin and in Travis county. Austin is a sanctuary city.

Katherine Stolp called some "local" law enforcement offices looking for ICE agents but she didn't call local counties or counties that incorporate major cities like Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston... Biased Reporting and poor comparison. Apples to Lemons.

High population counties to "eight jails in our area". MSM at it's finest.

Sheriff Greg Hamilton thank you for having the good sense not to listen to those Socialist on the street that can't even speak English.

Did you guys watch the video? Click on the link in the article and the video is on the right.

The cake taker of the day is the guy saying his father was an immigrant and that he loves America in Spanish! Two generations and the guy can't say it in English. What the heck! I guess he failed the ESL classes too.

I'm going to post their letter if I can.
