FRONTON - A duffle bag loaded with guns and weapons, Border Patrol say the find is nothing new. They've already seized more weapons this year than last.

In a brushy area along the river's edge in Fronton, Border Patrol agents seized a stash of weapons inside a duffle bag. U.S. Border Patrol spokesperson Dan Milian says he's not surprised. With more southbound inspections at the ports of entry, he says smugglers are desperate to get their weapons across the river.

Thick, unforgiving brush usually helps keep secrets. Nestled in the dry grass, Border Patrol agents spotted a duffle bag loaded with rifles and ammunition.

"Thankfully our agents are seizing these weapons; they're finding them before they have a possibility of going into Mexico and landing into the cartels’ hands," says Milian.

Milian says weapons seizures like this one are up 25 percent since last year. The strategy behind it is not something he's ready to talk about.

"Right now at this point, we can't really say if the weapons were intended to be used or if they were going to be sent into Mexico. But the common theme, common picture common method for all those ammunition or weapons is for those weapons to be sent south of the border to fuel the ongoing turf war,â€
