BETHLEHEM | Seven illegal immigrants were arrested Wednesday on charges they worked for a landscaping company using fraudulent or stolen Social Security numbers.

Northampton County Detective Robert Miklich said the men were employed by Brickman's Group, a national landscaping company with an office in Lansdale, Montgomery County.

The arrested men, who were all living in Bethlehem, are: Gabriel Godoy, 39, of the 700 block of East Fourth Street; Miguel Farfar, 21, of the 600 block of Hayes Street; Cruz Montero, 34, of the 400 block of Carlton Avenue; Niceforo Peralta, 33, of the 1000 block of Mechanic Street; Miguel Chamorro, 23, of the 700 block of Broadway; Servando Perez, 30, of the 700 block of Atlantic Street; and Gregorio Espejel, 51, of the 300 block of East Fourth Street.

The men worked for the landscaping company between 2002 and the present, according to court papers. Miklich said there were seven others who were also working illegally but they are no longer employees.

"I would doubt very seriously if we'll ever find them," he said.

He did not know if the company would face charges. He said that so far, the employer has been cooperative.

"It seems at this stage of the game that they didn't realize these people were illegal," he said. "We're going to have to look into it further."

But Miklich said Brickman's is certainly not the only company in the area using illegal workers.

"These people are all over," he said. "Every job site, just about, you go on anymore, there are illegal workers. It's just amazing. It's getting worse. There's no doubt in my mind."

All seven men were arraigned before District Judge Diane Repyneck on a charge of tampering with public records or information. Farfar, Chamorro, Perez and Espejel also were charged with identity theft.

Chamorro was committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $40,000 bail. Montero was committed in lieu of $30,000 bail and the others were all committed in lieu of $25,000 bail.
