Authorities find giant heroin stash in two vehicles — including Monster truck — in Queens; drivers arrested

The heroin was found inside car parts ontop of a pickup truck.

It was a Monster load of heroin.

Two men were busted — one driving a pickup and the other wheeling a Monster truck around Queens — carrying 48 kilograms of heroin with a street value of up to $13 million, officials said.

Members of a Drug Enforcement Agency task force were doing unrelated surveillance in the Elmhurst area when they noticed the trucks, both with North Carolina plates, driving slowly in tandem, circling the same block in Elmhurst at about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

That seemed odd. And one of the trucks was unregistered, so agents and officers approached the vehicles when they were stopped on Northern Blvd., according to DEA spokeswoman Erin Mulvey.

The drivers of the vehicles gave “inconsistent answers” to the agents’ questions, Mulvey said. After a drug-sniffing dog detected something the agents got a search warrant.

The pickup had a car axle and drive shaft in its bed. They found drugs inside the car parts, Mulvey said.
The drivers, Peter Omar Garcia-Romero and Jose Guadencio Lantan-Vela, are both from Guatemala, authorities said. Lantan-Vela came to the U.S. on a travel visa on Jan. 15, while Garcia-Romero lives in North Carolina, officials said.

"The New York Drug Enforcement Task Force is consistently on surveillance. When we are out on the streets, our teams will notice things that don't belong: like a Monster Truck following a pick-up truck and hitch trailer driving through snowy streets in Queens,” said DEA special-agent-in-charge James Hunt.

The task force includes NYPD officers and state police.

Both men will be prosecuted by Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan’s office on charges of first- and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and second-degree conspiracy.

It’s the latest in a series of large-quantity heroin busts in New York City.

Last May, a multi-agency DEA task force seized 70 kilograms of heroin in the Bronx in what was called the largest heroin bust ever in New York State.

"Lives" but doesn't state if he is in the country illegally and why is a travel visa issued to someone from a country wild with a deadly virus. 2 airlines just announced the are not boarding passengers in those areas.

It doesn't make any sense at all - bush & O have destroyed this country - this open borders stuff has to end. Every single one of the central americans taken in at the border, thousands, will bring all their siblings (which could be 12 brothers, sisters, their parents, aunts, uncles, cousins). Part of the plan to replace American citizens with garbage people.
