ALTON, TX — U.S. Border Patrol agents and Alton police helped reunite a 4-year-old child with his mother Thursday, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Border Patrol agents took the mother into custody Thursday after they intercepted a group of illegal immigrants near La Gloria, the release states. She told agents her son had been taken to a stash house in McAllen and gave them a phone number.

Agents called the number, according to the news release. Shortly afterward, they received a call from someone who identified himself as the child’s father. The man said he had received an anonymous call from someone who reported that he left the 4-year-old boy at a park in Alton.

Alton police found the child at a park next to the police station, the news release states. Border Patrol agents helped reunite the child with his mother, a native of Honduras.
