TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Two individuals who are being charged with murder in the Dominican Republic have been apprehended by the Border Patrol.

KGUN9 received the following press release from the Border Patrol:

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended two dangerous criminals over the weekend that had illegally entered the United States.

Agents assigned to the Willcox Station apprehended an individual Saturday who had been charged with the murder of two people and wounding two others in the Dominican Republic. The subject is being held for further processing.

Agents assigned to the Tucson Station arrested an illegal alien Sunday from El Salvador who had been convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to 90 months incarceration. The individual had been previously removed from the U.S. by an immigration judge in 2004. The subject is being held for prosecution.

The Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) played a vital role in the identification of these subjects. IAFIS technology helps agents identify those individuals who have a history of being involved in criminal activity. The Tucson Sector Border Patrol strives to improve the quality of life along the border by identifying and removing those aliens with criminal backgrounds.
