Maricopa County Sheriff's Office officials arrested 54 suspected illegal immigrants within 24 hours over the weekend during two separate traffic stops and while serving search warrants at two separate suspected drop houses.

Unreadable license plates prompted both of the traffic stops in the north Valley, resulting in the arrest of 31 suspected illegal immigrants, a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office press release reported.

One of the traffic stops led deputies to the suspected drop houses where they believed illegal immigrants were being held against their will under violent circumstances, the press release reported.

One of the suspected drop houses located at the 2900 block of West Indian School Road in Phoenix resulted in the arrest of 17 suspected illegal immigrants and led deputies to the 8000 block of West Saguaro Drive in Peoria where six more were arrested, the press release reported.

Six of the 54 people arrested are believed to be coyotes, the press release reported.
