ICE prisoners move into OCJ

GOSHEN – The first of the federal detainees to be housed under a contract with Orange County at its county jail in Goshen were being moved in on Tuesday, Sheriff Carl DuBois said.

Twenty detainees were to be brought in under a contract with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). An additional 42 prisoners are expected to be lodged at the Goshen facility on Saturday.

They will be housed in two 56 bed units at the jail and could be housed for up to four months until they are deported, said DuBois.

The sheriff discounted any talk that his jail does not meet standards in terms of cleanliness. He also noted that despite recent criticism by a small group of opponents, the contract between the county and the feds was approved by the county attorney’s office before county officials signed it.
