Arizonans will now have legal processes to use to clear their names if their identities are stolen and used by somebody else who is accused or convicted of a crime.

The bill sponsored by Representative Adam Driggs of Phoenix and signed into law Friday by Gov. Janet Napolitano takes effect Jan. 1.

It allows a person or a prosecutor to ask a court to determine that a person's name was used by another person who committed a crime. The court can hold a hearing but the process of determining a person's innocence can't delay a criminal case.

The bill had backing from labor and law enforcement groups .
