Border agents arrest gang member, sex offender

Border Patrol Agents at the Douglas and Willcox stations have arrested a man with gang affiliations, and a convicted sex offender. Manuel Ortega of Mexico was taken into custody at the Douglas Station when a fingerprint check indicated that Ortega was convicted and sentenced in Illinois on multiple charges, including harboring a runaway, resisting a peace officer, domestic battery, and criminal sexual abuse, and that he is a documented Sureno 13 gang member. He is being held pending prosecution, and removal proceedings.



Hugo Gomez of San Carlos, Mexico was arrested at the Willcox station when a criminal background check found that he was convicted of unlawful intercourse with a person under 18. He is being held pending prosecution, and removal proceedings have been initiated
