Tucson Sector border patrol agents arrested 60 illegal aliens and made 2 large drug seizures within a 24-hour period.

Around 5 p.m on Tuesday, March 11, agents from the Nogales station arrested 60 Mexican nationals who were hiding in a small home in Rio Rico. Five men are being held pending prosecution for alien smuggling and 3 vehicles were seized.

In the second case at around 8 p.m. at the I-19 checkpoint, another agent assigned to the Nogales station and his canine partner discovered that a red tractor trailer carrying vegetables also had 78 bundles of marijuana weighing almost 1,700 pounds concealed among the cargo.

Then early on the morning of Wednesday, March 12 another agent at the same checkpoint was alerted to the possibility of drugs in a truck by his canine. In between pallets of squash and bell peppers agents found 124 bundles of marijuana weighing around 2,700 pounds. The marijuana bundles from both seizures and the 2 truck drivers were sent to the Drug Enforcement Administration for prosecution.

In the last 5 months, Tucson sector agents have made 112,070 apprehensions and seized 191 tons of marijuana.
