July 6, 2007 - 5:17PM
A man wanted for attempted murder was arrested Thursday by Border Patrol agents from the Yuma sector.
The man, who had been hiding from U.S. authorities in Mexico, was encountered by agents at 6 a.m. after making an illegal entry into the U.S. near the Colorado River in Yuma.
He was transported to the Yuma Border Patrol station for processing, where record checks revealed he has a criminal history. That included a warrant for attempted murder in Bakersfield, Calif., according to the news release.
During questioning, the man admitted to having an outstanding warrant and a significant criminal history as well as being affiliated with a California street gang.
Officials at the Kern County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the suspect's identity through photographs and fingerprints sent to the department. They said they will extradite him as soon as possible to face the charges.
To facilitate the extradition, the suspect was transferred to the custody of the Yuma Police Department.
