Border Patrol rescues 4 in desert; 2 others found dead

    Last Update: 7/17 6:46 pm

TUCSON, AZ -- Border Patrol agents responding to a 911 call for help to another law enforcement agency have rescued four people lost in a western Arizona desert. Two others in the group were found dead.

Phoenix police fielded a call Wednesday from a Phoenix man who said family members were lost southwest of Gila Bend and needed medical help after walking for days without water.

Police say the man told them by phone that they could see a highway and gave an additional description of the area.

Tucson sector Border Patrol search and rescue agents to whom the call was transferred and a National Guard helicopter launched a search and discovered the group early Thursday.

The four people found in extreme dehydration were evacuated by helicopter.

The identities of the two people found dead were not immediately known Friday.

I wish articles like this one included the costs of the rescue operation and any medical attention too.
