Border Patrol seized pot worth more than $1 million

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - Border Patrol agents found more than 1,300 bundles of marijuana worth more than $$1 million in a truck east of Yuma.

Agent Michael Bernacke said Monday that agents noticed a Chevy Avalanche pickup truck turn around and head south toward the border when its driver spotted a Border Patrol vehicle Sunday night.

Soon after, the agents found the pickup abandoned about a mile north of the border.

Bernacke says agents tracked footprints leading from the truck a few hundred yards, and found and arrested an illegal immigrant suspected to be the driver.

Bernacke says a passenger who had been in the truck made it across the border to Mexico.

He says the driver was found to have been deported from the United States five times and has previously been convicted of drug smuggling.
