Agent shoots at driver who tried to hit him

A Border Patrol chase that began on Arizona 286 southwest of Tucson ended Tuesday morning on the city's South Side when an agent fired at the suspects.
Nobody was injured by the single shot, said Mario Escalante, Border Patrol Tucson Sector spokesman.
The incident began when a U.S. Fish and Wildlife agent tried to stop a Chevrolet SUV for speeding on Arizona 286 within the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge, Escalante said. As the agent approached the vehicle, the driver attempted to run him over. The agent was not hit, but the driver took off.
Border Patrol agents followed the SUV on the highway and a helicopter from Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine hovered overhead.
At East Irvington Road and South Park Avenue, the vehicle stopped, Escalante said. When the Border Patrol agent approached, the driver tried to hit him with the SUV. At that point, the agent, whose name was not disclosed, fired a single shot.
Four men in the SUV were arrested and taken into custody by Border Patrol agents. They could face charges of assault on a federal agent, but that has not been determined yet. No drugs were found in the car, he said.
It has also not been determined if they are illegal immigrants, Escalante said.

    Such stories make me nervous.

We can hope the new president will show support for those brave Border Patrol agents who risk their lives everyday.
