Mariopa County Attorney, Andrew Thomas is talking tough about illegal immigrants who try to bribe law enforcement officers.

In a press conference Tuesday, he said he'd seek felony convictions and/or jail time for an illegal immigrant found guilty.

Thomas cites a recent case when three illegal immigrants, arrested for human smuggling, offered officers $4000 for their release.

He said the illegal immigrants gave the officers the names and numbers of their relatives who were going to pay the officers.

Thomas said, in this case, the officers did the right thing and reported the incident right away.

The three illegal immigrants were deported and are not allowed to return to the U.S.

If they do return, they would be in violation of their probation, which the County Attorney said could subject them to incarceration.
