PHOENIX -- Deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office human smuggling unit served a search warrant on Arriba Mexican Grill in Scottsdale midday Friday, authorities said.
According to a Sheriff's Office news release, a former restaurant employee told deputies in February 2009 that there were workers who admitted they were in the country illegally.
Deputies worked for more than a year to verify the claims, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said.
Friday's search warrant covered employee records, payroll information and other documents that would support their findings that at least four workers were illegal immigrants using stolen identification documents.
The four workers and five additional people, including the restaurant manager, were arrested, the Sheriff's Office said.

SCOTTSDALE -- Maricopa County sheriff's deputies took nine people into custody Friday after a yearlong ID theft investigation of a Scottsdale restaurant.
Sheriff's deputies from the human smuggling/employer sanctions unit served a search warrant on Arriba's Mexican Food Restaurant, 15236 N. Pima Road, in Scottsdale Friday morning.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio said information developed since February 2009 indicates that several employees at the restaurant are not only working in the country illegally, but may also be using stolen IDs taken from U.S. citizens.
Last February, the sheriff's office reportedly received a tip from a former Arriba's employee, who claimed many workers at the restaurant admitted to him that they were in the country illegally.
Deputies began a comprehensive search using various employee databases to determine the validity of the informant's claims.
In Friday's search warrant, deputies are seeking restaurant employee records, payroll information and other documents to support their findings that at least four workers are undocumented and using stolen identifications.
Sheriff's spokesman Detective Aaron Douglas said nine people, including the restaurant manager, are in custody at this time.
MCSO indicated there is a possibility that this type of activity might be happening at other restaurants in the Arriba chain.

I'm totally flabbergasted! Who would do such a thing? ( would it be so hard to get a new set of emoticons, a set that has a sarcasm one at the top of the list?)
