SACRAMENTO – A group opposed to a term limits measure on the February ballot that would allow dozens of lame duck lawmakers to run for re-election in 2008 or 2010 filed a complaint Tuesday questioning campaign spending by one of the state's top Democrats.
The complaint filed with the state's Fair Political Practices Commission heaps more attention on reports that Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez used tens of thousands of dollars in campaign funds to pay for food, lodging and merchandise at upscale hotels, restaurants and stores in Europe and the United States.
It asks the FPPC to conclude that Nunez violated a ban on candidates using campaign funds for personal purposes and fine him.
The Los Angeles Times first reported last week that Nunez spent $8,745 in campaign funds at the Hotel Arts in Barcelona, Spain; $5,149 for a “meetingâ€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
