TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Mexican man who led Pinal County police on a high-speed vehicle pursuit on August 2 was arrested for possessing approximately $260,000 worth of marijuana.

Police said a sheriff's deputy attempted to pull over 23-year-old Martin Bustamante for a traffic stop on I-10, near milepost 203, when Bustamante sped up and weaved in and out of traffic at speeds between 105 and 110 miles per hour.

According to a news release, Bustamante threw his cell phone out the driver's side door before pulling over.

Sheriff Paul Babeu said PCSO deputies discovered 325 pounds of marijuana in the rear compartment of the vehicle.

Bustamante admitted he is from Mexico and was in the U.S. illegally. He was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, transportation of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful flight from law enforcement.

Babeu said the vehicle will be auctioned off and the cash from the sale will be given to local youth sports and crime victim shelters.
