Man accused of running fake ID business

A Mexican citizen has been arrested for allegedly operating a fraudulent identification business from an apartment in the west Valley.

Hector Miguel Amateco-Abundez, 27, was arrested last Thursday after detectives with the Arizona Department of Public Safety's Fraudulent Identification Tas Force served a search warrant on the apartment.

The arrest followed a month-long investigation into a suspect known only as "Daniel," the DPS said. It said investigators determined "Daniel" was selling Arizona ID cards, Social Security cards and permanent resident alien cards. He also was accused of buying and selling vehicles illegally.

DPS said detectives seized everal items of equipment used to make the fraudulent documents along with $5,284 in U.S. currency and some Mexican currency.

Ametico-Abundez, who had a valid passport, was booked on charges of possessing a manufacturing device, identity theft, conducting a criminal enterprise, forgery or trafficking in stolen identities and fraud.
